Serial # EC 102 • Model # CSECB8MLAEBGH1
Limited in quantity worldwide, the Gibson Custom Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom is inspired by the 6-string Eric Clapton famously used on Cream’s Disraeli Gears album and his work with Delaney and Bonnie. Later, the instrument was entrusted to equally legendary guitarist Albert Lee in the late 1970s. This gorgeous Gibson Custom wears a vintage-correct 1-piece ultra-light mahogany body and a medium C mahogany neck, both of which have been aged to perfection by the Murphy Lab program to approximate the feel of Albert and Eric’s iconic axe. Instead of the diminutive “fretless wonder” frets found on most vintage Les Paul Customs, this guitar boasts 22 medium-jumbo frets on its exquisite ebony fingerboard, topped off with 1950s-style mother-of-pearl block inlays. Even the hardware has been worn in to emulate the look of this guitar’s battle-scarred inspiration, including a golden ABR-1 bridge, Grover “milk bottle” tuning machines, and a trio of Custombucker humbuckers that serve up a strange brew of period-correct PAF sonics. Complete with a second pickguard signed by both Albert and Eric (with a wooden display case) and a custom Duck Brothers–inspired case, the Gibson Custom Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom represents the cream of Gibson Custom’s artist-tribute Les Paul Custom crop.
